FULL NAME: Kirby Michael Sparrowgrove
NICKNAMES: None, really. His mother calls him Little Sparrow, which embarrasses him.
AGE/DOB: July 21, 2004
YEAR: Sophomore
BLOOD STATUS: Half-blood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male, he/him
SEXUALITY: Pansexual
HOMETOWN: New York, NY
APPEARANCE:
Kirby tends to dress casually, in T-shirts, sweaters, and jeans. He likes dressing up too, but he doesn’t do it often because he thinks it won’t be seen as “cool”. He likes wearing bright colours and graphic t-shirts with funny sayings or movie references.
Kirby is energetic and enthusiastic. The less charitable might say he’s a complete dork. He gets excited easily and can’t seem to stop moving. Highly curious about a variety of subjects, he wants to learn all he can about the world. He tends to be shy around new people, but when he gets on a subject he’s interested in, he can talk on and on about it. Though friendly and fairly sociable, he often comes across as awkward.
Kirby is flexible. He tends to be laidback and willing to go along with whatever others suggest. Change doesn’t bother him; he’s excited to see what will happen next. He’s nonjudgmental and accepting of others. On the negative side, he can be a pushover. He doesn’t like conflict, and when people argue with him, he will often shut down the discussion or pretend to agree. He can be naïve and overly trusting.
Though he usually comes across as calm and carefree, on the inside Kirby has a lot of insecurities. He worries that people find him annoying, which is partly why he’s so unwilling to disagree with others. He’s sensitive to criticism and can be irritable and touchy when given negative feedback. Easily embarrassed, he gets nervous about performing or leading others. He has a fear of failure and tends to take rejection personally.
One of the few things that make Kirby angry is when people underestimate him. Determined to prove himself capable, he can be stubborn and may refuse to ask for help. This need to demonstrate his abilities, coupled with his strong curiosity, can lead him to be impulsive and reckless. More positively, he works hard at everything he does and perseveres even after failure.

FAMILY:
BACKGROUND:
Violet was born in a small magical village where many of the residents still clung to old-fashioned purist views. At the age of eighteen, she left for New York in hopes of finding adventure and different perspectives. At university, she met Dexter, a muggle. She was instantly drawn to him and enjoyed his large, loving family. They got married, despite receiving disapproving Howlers from Violet’s family. Finding that New York’s magical community was generally accepting of her marriage, Violet decided to revisit her magical heritage and become a Healer. After she was settled into her career, Marissa and then Kirby were born.
As a young child, Kirby was asthmatic, had many allergies, and was small, meek, and nerdy. Thus, he wasn’t popular in school and was often bullied. He was a good student, though sometimes unfocused, and a skilled athlete, but Marissa seemed to outdo him in everything. Until Kirby started showing signs of magic, when Marissa, four years older, still hadn’t. Dexter and Violet continued to hope that she was just a “late bloomer”, but eventually they concluded she was a Squib. Kirby was delighted that he was finally better than his sister in something. He gloated about it, not realizing how insecure Marissa was about it.
At the age of eleven, Kirby was accepted into Ilvermorny. He was sorted into Horned Serpent and initially enjoyed it; he was excited to have a new experience, and he met like-minded people. But soon he started to be bullied again. During grade 8, he decided that he wanted to change schools. It took some convincing, but eventually Dexter and Violet agreed that he could transfer to Peckenpaugh. Kirby instantly liked the school’s small, tight-knit atmosphere and felt welcomed.
